"About the Finnish War 1808-1809"
A new semi-permanent exhibition opened in September, 2009: "About the Finnish War 1808-1809". This is to commemorate the war and peace of 1809, when Sweden lost Finland to Russia. Till then, since well 600 years, Finland had been a part of Sweden.
Maps, illustrations, objects from the collections, a soldier´s uniform etc. will give an idea what military and civil life was like during this last war in Sweden. The result of the peace negotiations of 1809, was the new border in the Tornio River. This is also commented upon; today we see a new borderless collaboration in the cities of Haparanda and Tornio; since both Sweden and Finland became members of the European Union.
English texts are available in a separate booklet on loan.
